In this episode of the podcast, Doc Danny shares his key learnings and a heartwarming interaction from the recent March PT Biz Mastermind live event. This event brought together around 250 physical therapy business owners who were eager to learn from each other and create a supportive community focused on growing cash-based PT businesses.

During the event, Doc Danny had the opportunity to speak with a mastermind member's mother who was looking after her young granddaughter. They engaged in a fascinating conversation for about 15 minutes, during which Doc Danny discovered that the grandmother came from a highly entrepreneurial family. She had successfully started and managed various businesses over the years, ranging from an ice cream store and arcade to a mortgage brokerage and real estate investments. Doc Danny was intrigued by this, as he had grown up in a family of government workers where entrepreneurship was not the norm.

This interaction made Doc Danny realize the importance of having role models who exemplify success through their own entrepreneurial journeys. He believes that having someone who believes in you and can guide you through the doubts and challenges of starting a business is crucial. If one doesn't naturally have such a role model, Doc Danny suggests seeking out a business mentor who can provide valuable guidance and support.

Doc Danny was inspired by the grandmother's positive example and her unwavering support for her daughter and granddaughter's entrepreneurial pursuits. This encounter served as a powerful reminder of the significance of surrounding oneself with encouraging individuals who can help envision what's possible. Tune in to this episode to gain valuable insights from Doc Danny's experience at the March PT Biz Mastermind live event and to learn about the importance of finding supportive mentors in the world of business and entrepreneurship.

If so, you're in the right spot. My name is Danny Matei and over the last 15 years, I've done pretty much everything you can in the profession. I've been a staff PT. I've been an active duty military officer, physical therapist. I've started my own cash practice. I've sold that cash practice. And today my company physical therapy business helped over a thousand clinicians start growing scale, their own cash practices.

So if this sounds like something you want to do, listen up, cause I'm here to help you.

Hey, what's going on? Doc Danny here with the PT entrepreneur podcast. And this past week we just had our, uh, March PT biz. Mastermind live event. And I'll be doing a live stream with Eve GG here in about a week, um, going over kind of lessons learned. And, uh, we always take so much away from these events.

You know, it's, it's 250 or so, uh, business owners that are coming together and, uh, learning from each other and getting to honestly just get to meet each other and spend time with each other. And, uh, you know, in a positive. Environment with other people that are trying to grow businesses, uh, in this out of network cash based world, many of them are really also just very adamant about helping people move better, um, continue to do activities that they like to do with the people they like to do them with for as long as they possibly can.

And that's a pretty awesome, pretty awesome goal, uh, and to wrap a business around that, that. They can help each other with that. We can help them with is pretty cool. And to be able to get them all together is it's just like, it's, it's such an, uh, a unique environment, a very positive, uh, a very positive environment where, you know, they, they.

They're not, they're not the weird ones trying to grow a business all by themselves, right? Like in, and, and you may not know what I'm talking about if you haven't been there, but it is definitely a, it's a challenge. You can feel very isolating and it's, it's very lonely to go into business for yourself when you're used to being in a clinic, uh, with other clinicians and in a, in a sort of a busier environment and everybody starts at the same way, it's just them, right?

It's, it's a, it's a lot of isolation, but I had one interaction that I, that I wanted to talk about that I thought it was just. So unique and fun for me that, um, you know, that I, that I thought I would share it. And, uh, we have a, we have a mastermind member that we work with and her, um, her mom was there helping her out.

So she had her daughter, uh, her daughter's like pretty young and, uh, like her mom was pushing her daughter around in a, um, in a stroller. So a couple of months old, If I had to guess and I, I saw her mom, she was obviously like, look, kind of lost. So I went up to her and I asked her to chat with her and see if I could help her out.

Uh, and her daughter was, was, uh, in a small group session that wasn't out just yet. Uh, so she was a little early for lunch. So, um, I got a chance to, you know, Yeah, I spend about like 15 minutes with her, uh, and, and, uh, learn a bit more about, uh, you know, about this master remembers mom. And what was so interesting for me was I asked her, I said, Hey, I mean, is this strange for you to have your daughter, um, start a business?

And she goes, Oh, absolutely not. It runs in the family. And, uh, I said, Oh, that's interesting. Like, what do you mean by that? And she proceeded to tell me about, uh, the businesses that she had about a ice cream store and arcade that she had started. Uh, and, um, you know, and then from there she had a video store and then she got into the, the mortgage, uh, um, brokerage business.

And, uh, when, You know, more into real estate after that and how she, uh, you know, she had all these different types of properties and, and, and now she, she lived on, um, a farm and was, was just like explaining her entrepreneurial journey and just how varying it was, you know, and, and how she just kind of went towards things that she was interested in.

And I thought it was just so fascinating because I don't come from a family of entrepreneurs. I come from a family of government workers, like legitimately everyone in my family has some amount of time that they've spent either in the military or in a government job, like a GS job. Um, and that's what was normal for me.

And that's what's normal for my family. Right? Because that's what we, what we all do. Saw as sort of the path forward and with my kids and I think about, I think about these interactions and this, this, uh, this person in particular, it was so fun to talk to her because, you know, I think about my kids, what they see as normal is.

Is what we do. And I'm not saying that they need to do their own, you know, have their own business, but, um, the example that they see is very different. And the example that this mastermind member saw was an incredibly successful. Mom that she had that had these different businesses and was being creative within her own, her own businesses.

And, and, um, and that's what, that's what she saw and go figure like this, This, uh, member that we have, she's incredibly successful in a, in a, uh, shorter period of time, we know even with her own business and like the sky's the limit for what this person, uh, you know, can do. And I just think of like the incubation period with a, with a, with a person in her life, like, like this, like with her mom being, you know, that entrepreneurial in her own right, that it probably just as normal.

You know, and I don't know, it made me think of other people, right? And I think everybody needs somebody in their life that they can look to as an example for what's possible. If they're trying to do their own thing, if they're trying to become an entrepreneur, if they're trying to start a business, um, because it's hard and it's easy to doubt yourself and it's really easy to think that it's not going to work and you have these good days and then you have these bad days and you think you're going out of business.

Um, I mean, early on you probably think you're going out of business every other day, but to have this sort of, uh, person that you see as an example, that's had success, that, that probably believes in you more than you might even believe in yourself. Like that's such a important role. And, you know, I think if you don't have something like that, really seeking out, you know, some sort of, you know, business mentor or even just like a local, uh, person that you can, you You know, that you can just have conversation with every once in a while about what you're doing that maybe is, maybe has already had a few businesses, but still likes to talk about the game, you know, like that's what I found so fascinating talking to her.

I could have chatted with her for hours, uh, about, I just was like, tell me about a video store. What is that like? You know, how easy was it to sell ice cream and have an arcade? That seems like it'd be like a fun, uh, business to have, you know, and, and I just, you know, obviously we were, we were working at the events.

I only got about 15 minutes to chat with her. But, um, I just found it fascinating and I love stuff like that. And I think it's just a good example of having people in your life that are great examples of what's possible and not just telling you what you can't do. And many of you are probably getting a lot more of, Oh, you shouldn't do that.

That's not the safe direction. This, you can't do that. Maybe even, and to have somebody in your life that is positive and is pointing you in a direction where it's like, yeah, go for it. Like, look what I was able to do. You can do this too. What do you want to do? And like, kind of be able to dream with you about what's possible, man.

What a cool, just what a cool person to, uh, you know, to have in your life and then to be supporting also your, your daughter. Uh, while she's actively at an event and you're helping, you're helping watch, watch your grandchild. Like that's amazing. And I know for many people, maybe they have support systems like that, but, um, I don't think it's all that common from what I've seen.

So anyway, I thought this was a cool interaction. It's a feel good story. Something that I thought was awesome. I wanted to share it. It's definitely one of the more memorable, uh, you know, interactions I've had at a, uh, at a live event. And, um, you know, I hope that if you don't have somebody like that in your life, that you, you find somebody, they can support you and, uh, help you see what's possible and what's, you know, maybe show you the path forward from what they've done and, and, you know, honestly, just be able to believe in you just as much as, uh, as you need in those early stages.

It's tough. Cause sometimes you need someone to believe in you more than you even believe in yourself.
