In this recent podcast, Dr. Danny shared valuable insights derived from Rick Rubin's new book on navigating challenges and problems in the business landscape. These insights shed light on effective strategies to tackle obstacles and foster a proactive approach towards problem-solving. Let's delve into the key takeaways discussed by Dr. Danny:

1. Embracing a Relaxed Approach to Creativity

One significant revelation conveyed by Rubin's book is the notion that excessive effort in trying to be creative or resolving issues can impede the process. When the brain is strained or pressured, it struggles to generate innovative ideas freely. Rubin advocates for a shift in mindset by engaging in physical activity to alleviate tension. He specifically mentions the idea of spending 5 minutes punching a pillow to release physical stress before proceeding with problem-solving.

Dr. Danny aligns with this concept, emphasizing the importance of physical movement, such as taking a walk, to calm the mind and facilitate the emergence of solutions. He cautions against external stimuli like podcasts or music during this time, as they may hinder the brain's ability to work without distractions. The key lies in quiet bodily movement to enable uninterrupted mental processing.

2. Cultivating a Positive Perspective on Challenges

Rubin's book underscores the significance of reframing challenges as opportunities for growth and development. Instead of viewing difficulties through a negative lens or attributing blame externally, Rubin advocates for embracing problems as chances to showcase creativity, glean valuable insights, and transform impediments into compelling narratives.

This shift in perspective empowers individuals to transition from a victim mentality to that of a hero, taking charge of conquering challenges. Dr. Danny echoes the sentiment that even a subtle change in outlook can bring about a substantial impact on how individuals perceive inevitable business hurdles.

Effectively Addressing Challenges in Business

In conclusion, Dr. Danny recommends that entrepreneurs incorporate physical movement into their routine to facilitate the emergence of creative solutions and adopt a proactive stance by reframing challenges as opportunities for growth. The way in which challenges are perceived and approached can profoundly influence one's mindset and resilience in navigating business obstacles. By internalizing the insights shared from Rubin's book, individuals can enhance their problem-solving skills and fortitude in overcoming adversities in the business realm.

By incorporating these strategies into their approach, entrepreneurs can foster a resilient mindset and enhance their ability to tackle challenges effectively in the competitive business landscape. Embracing a relaxed creative process and cultivating a positive outlook on obstacles can pave the way for innovative solutions and personal growth in the face of adversity.

Danny: As you're dealing with day to day problems, which are going to happen, they never really go away. In fact, as your businesses get bigger and more complex, your problems become bigger and more complex and the stakes are higher. So get used to it. Like it's not changing. You're going to have to deal with problems.

How do you deal with it? Hey, are you a physical therapist looking to leverage your skill set in a way that helps you create time and financial freedom for yourself and your family? If so, you're in the right spot. My name is Danny Matei and over the last 15 years, I've done pretty much everything you can in the profession.

I've been a staff PT. I've been an active duty military officer, physical therapist. I've started my own cash practice. I've sold that cash practice. And today my company, physical therapy business helped over a thousand clinicians start growing scale, their own cash practices. So if this

sounds like something you want to do, listen up, cause I'm here to help you.

What's going on? Doc Danny here with the PT entrepreneur podcast. And today I want to share something with you that I learned this week that I thought was a really interesting perspective in regards to how do you view, how do you view problems? How you view having to deal with, challenges in your business in particular.

So I'm reading the new book that Rick Rubin came out with, who is a music producer and interesting guy. It's very Philosophical in a lot of ways, just his thoughts on having been a part of many different sort of creative ventures and his thoughts on the creative process in general, which is interesting.

Cause it's not just about, Hey, how do you make music? How do you write a book? How do you do anything that people might think of like traditional creativity, maybe it's the arts or whatever. He doesn't view it that way, right? Like he, he used creativity as. Just coming up with, solutions or new things.

And he references like the Philly cheesesteak as an example, right? Like someone had to come up with it and it's a masterpiece of a sandwich, obviously. If you think of Being creative as just your ability to just be in a flow state and let your brain just almost get out of your own way in, in some capacity.

That's what he's referencing. And I think that there's two things that he talked about in there that were really I would say interesting to me and that I would very much agree with one of them being. Trying to, when you're trying to be creative or you're trying to solve a problem is when you typically have the hardest time actually.

Being creative or solving that problem, it's if somebody's okay, be funny, say something funny, like it's hard for you to think of something funny because you're put on the spot. And your brain is just not able to just be in that easy flow state. That you might be in, in different situations.

So there's two things that he talks about. One of those is to move, just get your body moving. Yeah. He talks about punching a pillow for five minutes which is a long time. I think if you punch a pillow for five minutes, I bet your arms are exhausted, but he talks about just doing something like that and then doing some breathing and trying to just like.

Work through the next step of the thing you're trying to do. So movement, right? I think many of you probably noticed this with, if you have something that's you're trying to figure out or whatever, if you go on a walk, oftentimes, you, it comes to you, you go for a run, you go out and, play some basketball.

You go do something, go work out. And then all of a sudden it's there, it shows up, right? It's like you get out of your own way and all of a sudden the solution is there.

And I've noticed in a lot of ways is just as long as I'm not inundating myself with information while I am doing something else, it makes a huge difference. For instance, if let's say you go for a walk, but you're listening to a podcast while you're doing that, maybe it's not going to work as well.

You're getting inundated with other information while your brain is like trying to settle and come up with, whatever solution to a problem that you need. So you got to do this in a more of a quiet manner, go for a walk with nothing. Just go for a walk and look around and breathe and just walk, right?

Like movement helps so much with us to really be able to let our brain do his job. The other thing that he talks about Is the idea of perspective of the process itself. So sometimes it's very easy for us to get frustrated and we can say, man, I just wish things were easier. I wish this wasn't so hard.

I wish that. So and so wouldn't have done that thing or that this would have worked out better here, or the timing would have been better or whatever. And the one thing that he referenced that was in relationship perspective was if you can change it to, this is your opportunity to like, really be creative, really flex that creative muscle.

Now, all of a sudden you go from a. Negative view of, Oh, why did this happen? And more of a victim approach of, I wish this hadn't happened. Or why did this happen to me to all of a sudden it's now you're more of a hero. He, you have the opportunity to be heroic with what you're doing.

And it could be anything, it could be anything that you're doing. Cause. Everyone has things they're trying to work through challenges that they face. But if you can shift that from, I wish this hadn't happened, or I wish it was different to, wow, what an opportunity, what a story this is going to be. Once I figured this out, or once I turn this around, or once I overcome this, you now put yourself into a place where, you are The person in charge of your destiny, the person in charge of the next step.

And your brain starts to view it in a very different way as well. It should feel different about what you're working on. And these are just two simple. Hacks that I've taken away from the book that I'm reading that I thought was really pertinent for the entrepreneurial community in particular.

As you're dealing with day to day problems, which are going to happen, they never really go away. In fact, as your businesses get bigger and more complex, your problems become bigger and more complex and the stakes are higher. So get used to it. Like it's not changing.

You're going to have to deal with problems. So how do you deal with them? Get moving. That's an easy one. Move around. Let your let your thoughts settle down, let your brain do its thing and don't try to force it to try to be funny. Don't try to force it to solve a problem. Let's let it happen.

And the other thing is to change your perspective from, Oh, I wish this hadn't happened to what a great opportunity this is going to be. How amazing this story is going to be. How much. Like how amazing is it I'm going to learn Lessons from this that I'm going to be able to apply in so many other ways.

Like you go from it being a negative thing to all of a sudden it's an opportunity and that slight change in perspective makes a massive difference in terms of how you feel about the problems you're going to have to deal with because everyone's gonna have to deal with them inevitably, especially in your business, you're going to have them happen.

So get moving. Change your perspective and remember everything's a creative process. Even if you're solving business problems You're still being creative What an office what a amazing opportunity is for us to be able to do that and have the opportunity To be able to be you know, free thinkers to solve problems be creative within our own businesses.
