E589 | Why I Love Slack
Mar 16, 2023Doc Danny is discussing the internal communication channel Slack, which allows for messaging and sending of documents within a company. It compartmentalizes conversations and can be used for different aspects of the business, like a channel for clinicians only or upcoming events.
Slack is helpful for those who are technology averse, as it is an easy-to-use internal communication channel. It is used in both cash-based practices and PT Biz.
Slack is an incredibly helpful tool for businesses, especially ones with remote teams. It's great for keeping internal conversations compartmentalized, and it's free or super cheap to use. It can help save time and streamline communication, as well as help to reduce the amount of emails clogging up inboxes.
It's a great way to keep conversations on track, and to ensure no important messages are missed. Onboarding new team members is also easier when they are able to use Slack from the start. Overall, Slack is a great tool for businesses and can help to make communication much more efficient.

Subscribe to the PT Biz Channel and check out the weekly videos that we're coming out with to help you win in the cash-based practice game. So here's the question. How do physical therapists like us who don't wanna see 30 patients a day, who don't want to work home health and have real student loans create a career and life for ourselves that we've always dreamed about?
This is the question, and this podcast is the answer. My name's Danny Matte, and welcome to the PT Entrepreneur Podcast.
What's going on guys? Doc Denny here with the PT Entrepreneur podcast, and uh, today we're going super tactical. I'm actually gonna talk a little bit about one of the internal channels that we like to use, software that we like to use, that we've used within, uh, my cash-based practice as well as with. PT Biz, and that's Slack.
So for those of you that are technology averse like I am, uh, slack is a internal communication channel that allows you to message and send, um, you know, different. Uh, like documents, uh, attachments and things like that internally. And you can also have channels where you can discuss things of like specific, uh, parts of the company.
So it could be, uh, like clinicians only channel, or it could be, um, upcoming events channel or something to that effect where you can compartmentalize, uh, some of the back and forth that, that people are having. But one thing I want you to think about is just how many emails you get and then you and your team trying to communicate with each other via emails and then how that gets.
Jumbled up with all your patient emails that you probably do need to get back to faster. And then the personal emails you're getting from your kids' school and all that stuff, right? So, um, this is where something like Slack made a big difference for us. And I actually was like not an avid user of this when, um, when I was even seeing patients, uh, within athletes' potential.
And it's just because I thought, oh, it's just like one more thing. I was kind of set in my ways and as, as I moved out of that and. I started focusing more on PT biz. We, we were not, um, in person together. We, you know, are all over the country, so communication is that much harder cuz you're not bumping into somebody to remind them of something or whatever.
And, and, um, so being able to actually, uh, you know, Have a channel that's designated specifically to, uh, someone like communicating with someone else in the company and not anybody outside of it really helped, uh, you know, a ton with efficiency of these conversations where they can get lost really easily.
So, um, this is a tool, one of our, you know, kind of tech stack that we use that I love. I don't know if I'd have a company that I was a part of that didn't. Use Slack just because it's so helpful to keep these different company conversations compartmentalized in a way that they, uh, that they should be. So if you're not using Slack right now, I definitely recommend checking it out.
I think it's actually free, uh, to start using it up to a certain number of people actually don't think, uh, and, and if, if it's not, it's like super. Super cheap, but it's a great way of, of starting to build out some internal communication channels with your team. And as you onboard people, if they can use those, it's even better because they don't have any bad habits they develop or anything like that.
So, um, if you haven't started using something like this yet, do yourself a favor. Go check it out. Add it to your practice if it makes sense. Um, even if you're like, oh man, I don't want one more thing, it's great. It's like a really good way, uh, like I said, of cleaning out your inbox to where you don't have these back and forth that get missed.
It's really, really direct. Clear communication channels for a digital, uh, communication pathway at a minimum. And it should help save you quite a bit of time in your business on a weekly basis. So hope you like this little tactical nugget and hope it helps your business immediately.
